Have More Questions About Parent Coaching or Consultations?

Check out the FAQ section below or contact us.

Can I bring my child to parenting coaching sessions?

The type of coaching provided is designed to work with parents directly and promote positive behavioral change while nurturing a strong parent-child connection. As such, these sessions are usually not meant to involve your child but to help you cultivate practical, successful strategies that you can use with your child or teen at home and school.

Can I use parent coaching or consultation time if my child or myself are in crisis?

Parent coaching and consultation is not for dealing with emergencies or a family crisis. Instead, it's about giving parents tools to handle everyday situations better, promoting ongoing growth and strengthening the family. For mental health emergencies, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room.

How is coaching different than therapy?

Coaching provides solution-focused support on specific issues and is present problems and solutions for the future. Therapy addresses mental health concerns and may focus on exploring present emotions regarding past events, and typically addresses symptoms related to a mental health diagnosis. If it's determined that you or your child would benefit from therapy, we can offer you referrals to therapists in your area.

I’m worried that even if parent coaching proves effective now, my child's behaviors will regress down the line.

Life is an adventure, filled with twists and unexpected turns. While you and your child or teen can get better at managing new challenges and experiences that come your way, you cannot predict the challenges you may face in their future. It is not possible to anticipate the most effective means for helping with every potential situation. Many families find that “check-ins” or “booster” sessions down the road can help them to adapt as their family's needs evolve as their child(ren) grow and encounter new challenges. We are here to support you as your child gets older and will work with you to target issues that may develop over time.

What is the commitment?

During your initial call we will talk about what's going on in your family, and what you're hoping to gain from your session.  We will explore the ways in which we may be able to help.  There's no obligation to continue.

The cost of this virtual, 30-minute session is $50.  If we decide to continue meeting, then you can schedule future coaching sessions in 30 minute increments. Payment is due at the time of session booking. Fees are non-refundable.

How many sessions do I need?

Everyone is different. While the tips and strategies can be instantly implemented following a single session, most parents we work with tend to experience significant growth and improvement following several meetings, especially for more complicated situations, such as parenting an anxious child, adoptive cases,  blended families, or significant behavioral challenges. In these situations, more sessions may be needed. For parents interested in 5+ parent coaching sessions, please ask us about session bundles and discount offerings.

How frequently would we need to meet?

If you choose to do more than one session, then you decide what frequency works best for you. It could be every week or every other week, or even once a month, depending on the extent of the issue and how much implementation time you want to have between sessions. In our experience, every week or every other week works best when you’re just getting started with coaching.

Can I use insurance for parent coaching or parent consultations?

Parent Coaching and Parent Consultations are typically not covered by insurance. Check with your insurance provider for more information.

Can I use my HSA card to pay for Parent Coaching or Parent Consultations?

Potentially. Every plan is different, so you would need to ask your provider directly. If you have an HSA, check with your provider to confirm if your HSA account can cover coaching costs.

Is parent coaching completely confidential?

Yes, we would only give out information if you specifically authorize us to do so or if there was a safety concern.

Do you offer parent coaching services in specific locations?

We offer parent coaching and consultations nationwide across all 50 states.

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

How do I prepare for a virtual parent coaching session?

Find a quiet/private place - ideally not at work.  Don't be driving in a car, confirm a stable internet connection, and bring your questions.
